Product Certification

Product certification, or product qualification, is the process of certifying that a certain product has passed performance tests and quality assurance tests, and meets qualification criteria stipulated in contracts, regulations, or specifications.

Quality Certifications For Mobile Phone Around the World

Europe

European Union

EU requires three kinds of certification for mobile phone products: CE (European Conformity), phone number IMEI and ROHS (Restriction of Hazardous Substances). The product should experience chemical analysis (divide a mobile phone into metallic parts and non-metallic parts and conduct chemical analysis accordingly) as well as XRF (X-Ray Fluorescence) analysis (scan the complete handset with a XRF machine and chemical testing). And a complete ROHS report should be sumbitted.

Russia

In Russia, new mobile phone need to get GOST (ГОСТ Государственный общесоюзный стандарт) certification. The tests are needed to be conducted in local labs and foreign manufacturers need authorization from local operator or mobile phone brand for shipping.

Asia

Philippine

Manufacturers are provided with two options: applying for access authentication from NTC (National Telecommunication Commission of Philippines), or passing the whole CE certification, not just the RF and SAR.

Malaysia

Malaysia government also accepts two kinds of access authentication: the one issued by SIRIM (Standards and Industrial Research Institute of Malaysia) or the CE certification. Malaysia also allows mobile phone manufacturers to exchange the CE certification with SIRIM accepted certification. CE test reports from admissive labs must be sumbitted for the exchange.

Jordan

To enter Jordan market, manufacturers can either apply for the access authentication from TRC (Telecommunication Regulatory Commission) or provide CE certification and reports, which need to contain the phone's IMEI number. IMEI number is needed in the shipment. Moreover, the trademark and model number of IMEI number must be the same.

Bangladesh

CE certification is also acceptable in Bangladesh and in some regions, the whole CE reports and certifications are required. The CE certification can be approved with SAR certification and IMEI number. Moreover, manufacturers can get access authentication from BTRC (Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission). Besides, some customers might require CCC (China Compulsory Certification) certification.

India

It is more complicated to launch new phone in India. You need to get SAR (Specific Absorption Rate), ROHS, WPC (Wireless Power Consortium), BIS (The Bureau of Indian Standards) certification and IEMI number. And to get the SAR certification, the phone needs to meet FCC (Federal Communications Commission) Standard.

Africa

South Africa

In South Africa, you need to provide certifications from ICASA (Independent Communications Authority Of South Africa) or CE. To apply for the ICASA certification, you need LVD, EMC, RF reports of CE.

Egypt

Access authentication to Egypt market is issued by NTRA (National Telecommunication Regulatory Authority) . CE certification, which can be changed to NTRA approval with CE reports and certification, is also acceptable. However, with the CE certification, you also need to apply for inspection before the shipment. To apply for inspection, you should first apply for VOC certification from one of the five institutions after you have CE approval; then schedule inspection and shipment with VOC documents and IEMI number.

Nigeria

Nigeria requires two kinds of certification: mandatory SONCAP (Standards Organization of Nigeria Conformity Assessment Program) certification and NCC (Nigerian Communications Commission) access authentication.

The certifiction can be completed with three steps:

1 )Test the mobile phones to finish electronic test reports;

2 )Apply PC (Product Certification) approval from ITC (Institute for Testing and Certification) with test reports and rquired materials.

3 )Apply one-time clearance certification - SONCAP certification for the shipment.

Saudi Arabia

Saudi Arabia government only accepts certification from SASO (Saudi Arabian Standards Organization).

Dubai

Dubai government accepts two types of certifications: Local TRA access authentication and CE certification, which can be changed to the TRA certification with CE certification and test reports.

North American - United States

To sell your phone in United States, you need to prepare the Wireless Communication Department FCC ID (Federal Communications Commission Identifier) certification. Whats’s more, since mobile phones are bound to local carriers for sell, it is not usual for mobile phone manufacturers to sell phones to US with FCC ID certification. In other countries of North American and South American, like Mexico, FCC ID certification is also accepted.

South America

Brazil

ANATEL certification is required for mobile phone that is planned to launch in Brazil. Here are the specific requirements:

1 )Complete the pre-test inland for more than ten samples (including the phone itself, charger and battery).

2 )Complete all the tests required in Brazil.

Australia

In Australia, mobile phone manufacturers need three kinds of certification to launch their new products: A-TICK certification from ACA (Australian Communications Authority), C-TICK and SAA (Standards Association of Australian) certification for accessories like battery and charger. To apply A-TICK certification, you need:

1 )Get the CE certification with all the reports inland.

2 )Provide three samples for local tests in Australia.

Quality Certifications For Phone Accessories

Certifications for Battery

1 )There are mainly two kinds of certifications for mobile phone battery: one is EN60950-1, which costs less but more possibly to get rejected by local government; the other is IEC62133, which is more expensive but guarantees a higher rate to pass the examination of local government.

2 )In United State, you need to get Battery UL (Underwriter Laboratories Inc.) certification.

3 )CB (Scheme of the IECEE for Mutual Recognition of Test Certificates for Electrical Equipment) certifications is widely used.

Certifications for Battery Charger

1 )In EU countries, the battery charger needs CE certification, including EMC and SAFETY reports.

2 )In United States, phone charger needs FCC ID certification. And UL certification is optional for charger.
